Food Standards Agency

FSA

The Food Standards Agency is an independent food safety watchdog set up by the Government to protect the public's health and consumer interests in relation to food.

The FSA's aims are to:

  • Reduce foodborne illness by improving food safety right through the food chain
  • Help people to eat more healthily
  • Pomote honest and informative labelling to help consumers
  • Promote best practice within the food industry
  • Improve the enforcement of food law

The site provides access to a wealth of information on food safety matters including a down loadable "Guide to food hygiene".

Institute of Food Science and Technology

IFST

IFST is the independent incorporated professional qualifying body for food scientists and technologists. Its purposes include:

  • Furthering the application of science and technology to all aspects of the supply of safe, wholesome, nutritious and attractive food, nationally and internationally
  • Advancing the standing of food science and technology, both as a subject and as a profession

Institute of Food Reserch

IFR

The Institute of Food Research is a UK centre for research of international quality, sponsored by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council.

The British Nutrition Foundation

BNF

The Foundation promotes the nutritional wellbeing of society through the impartial interpretation and effective dissemination of scientifically based nutritional knowledge and advice. It works in partnership with academic and research institutes, the food industry, educators and government. The Foundation influences all in the food chain, government, the professions and the media. The Foundation is a charitable organisation which raises funds from the food industry, government and a variety of other sources.
