Driving Standards Agency

DSA

DSA contributes to the road safety of drivers, riders and all other road users. The DSA is responsible for:

  • Conducting driving tests in Great Britain for cars, motorcycles, lorries, buses and other vehicles
  • Maintaining a register of car driving instructors and checking their standard of tuition
  • Operating a voluntary register of Large Goods Vehicle (LGV) trainers
  • Supervising Compulsory Basic Training(CBT) for motorcyclists
  • Setting and maintaining theory test standards.

They produce a range of informative publications including:

  • The official motorcyling manual - A book on safe riding skills

DVLA

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency is an Executive Agency of the Department for Transport.

Aims are to facilitate road safety and general law enforcement by maintaining registers of drivers and vehicles; and to collect taxation - vehicle excise duty [VED].

Vehicle Inspectorate

The Vehicle Inspectorate (VI) is an executive agency within the Department for Transport (DfT), UK Government. Its primary aim is to contribute to the improvement of road safety and environmental standards.
